After shopping at all the big name jewelry stores that made me feel like I was supposed to just walk in with my hands up and my wallet out. I finally met a guy by the name of Eric Smith. While travelling the north coast of California, driving through the amazing Giant Redwoods I passed by a small family owned jewelry store and decided to stop.
I was looking for diamond rings, engagement rings and possibly some handmade jewelry. Well I met Eric Smith and this guy does it all. I browsed around his store and was just blown away by the artistic quality of his handmade garnet jewelry, topaz jewelry and more one of a kind jewelry than I had ever seen all in one place.
Then there was the opal! Wow! This guy is some kind of cross between craftsman and artisan when it comes to handmade jewelry. Especially opal. I was completely blown away by what this guy could do with opal. It wasn’t long before I knew I was in the right place. This is just what I was hoping to find. Custom jewelry, wedding rings, mens jewelry, diamond jewelry, and again the opal.
Eric Smith, he is a gold smith and jeweler with 25+ years making custom handmade jewelry. Opal just happens to be one of his favorite materials to work with. I was really amazed at the opal inlay work this guy does. And the custom one of a kind jewelry that you just will not find anywhere else on the planet. There were opal rings that were just amazingly beautiful. Opal pendants, black opal, blue opal and the extraordrinary fire opal. Opal earrings and custom handmade landscapes with redwood trees set on blue turquois with opal inlay and gold nuggets from the Smith River where he lives. Seriously… he lives right on the Smith River, now is that not quite a coincidence? His name is Eric Smith, he is a gold smith and he lives on the Smith River. LOL
That was many years ago now and over the years Eric has become one of my very best friends of all time. He is a very honest and hard working family man with seven kids and a lovely wife, Jenifer.
Over the years I have had Eric do jewelry repair for me. In fact when it comes to jewelry repair I have never found anyone better. He does the real quality jewelry repair with integrity, not the kind of jewelry repair you’ll find in the big fancy jewelry stores that will swipe a little drop of gold from you when they resize your gold ring. LOL
Well being an internet geek I asked him if he had a website and was surprised to find out he did but was not really that actively involved with the internet.
